Beyond "it depends" - How much architectural work do we need?

We had and still have long and often futile debates about the question, how much architectural work we need and how to embed them best in our (agile) projects.

In this session, I will introduce a simple, yet powerful concept that helps to answer this question: Uncertainty.

We will first see what uncertainty is, what typical drivers are and how they affect us. Then we will look at response patterns to uncertainty and use them to create a little framework that helps us to organize our architectural work based on varying degrees of uncertainty. Finally, we will add a few additional influencing factors to the framework.

At the end of this session, you will have a much better understanding how to organize your architectural work not only in the face of agility.
