Modern ways of working – agile, DevOps, continuous delivery, and others – are thought by some senior managers to be incompatible with highly regulated industries.
Some have concerns about segregation or separation of duties around development, testing, or operations in particular. Others are worried about requirements to use specific waterfall project management techniques where a movement to product orientation might be preferred.
In this talk Simon Rohrer will present his experience working in financial services over the last 25+ years, and having personal responsibility for authoring formal processes which must comply with the ever-growing set of regulations.
Simon's passion for modern ways of working has meant he's insisted on holding on fully to the principles of continuous delivery and 'you build it, you run it', along with breaking down traditional waterfall projects and aligning development to more iterative and incremental long lived products, while developing processes that comply fully with the latest regulations, and demonstrating compliance to internal stakeholders and regulators.
Anyone interested in fending off opposition to deploying multiple times per day in banking or other regulated industries, or taking new services live to production in days not months, should come along to this talk.
